PKR POLLS | Sungai Siput MP S Kesavan has denied allegations that he offered a RM500 bribe to a PKR member to support him during the party election.

The allegation was detailed in a police report by Sungai Siput PKR division member Rohaida Awang, that was lodged last night.

Kesavan, who is vying for the PKR vice-presidency, told Malaysiakini that Rohaida had approached him at his service centre a week ago for money.

“She came to my office, saying that her husband did not have steady income as he was only doing odd jobs.

"She told me that they have seven children, six of whom are still studying and her 13-year-old daughter is a cancer patient.

“As an MP, my office has an allocation to give assistance to those in need and, thus, I approved RM500 as assistance to help her family.

"Only now after this allegation surfaced, I learnt that she is a PKR candidate who comes from the other camp.

“I believe she was used by someone to tarnish my image ahead of the party election," he said when contacted today.

Kesavan also claimed that the woman had filled the necessary paperwork for the cash aid.

According to Rohaida’s police report, which was sighted by Malaysiakini, two of Kesavan’s aides had allegedly visited her at her home on Oct 20.

Rohaida claimed that the duo had given her RM100 and asked her to join Kesavan’s team. She is currently vying for the Sungai Siput PKR division women’s wing vice-chief position.

She claimed to be in possession of evidence in form of audio recordings and photographs.

Her report said that she was asked to go to Kesavan’s service centre yesterday where she was given a cheque for RM500.

She claimed that the cheque was cashed and surrendered to the MACC in Ipoh.

Malaysiakini contacted Perak Criminal Investigation Department chief Yahya Abd Rahman, who confirmed that the woman had lodged reports with both the police and MACC.

He said police have referred the case to MACC.

The Perak leg of PKR's internal elections will take place tomorrow. Kesavan is currently in eighth position in the vice-presidency race. Only the top four will be elected.
