The bungalow issue continues to haunt Lim Guan Eng and trailed the finance minister to the Dewan Rakyat when he tabled Pakatan Harapan's inaugural budget this evening.

BN lawmakers raised the issue when Lim announced that the Inland Revenue Board would investigate all excessive wealth through the ownership of luxury items such as jewellery, watches, handbags, expensive cars and properties.

At this point, the BN lawmakers asked the finance minister if bungalows would be included.

In September, the Penang High Court acquitted both Lim and businessperson Phang Li Khoon of the corruption charges over the purchase of the bungalow at below market value.

Lim had purchased the bungalow when he was the chief minister of Penang.

The DAP secretary-general has always maintained that the charge against him was "selective prosecution" by former premier Najib Abdul Razak's administration.

Barely, five minutes into his maiden budget speech, Lim was interrupted by hecklers from the opposition bench when he thanked Malaysians for "saving the country from a kleptocratic government".

Referring to the previous BN-led administration, the finance minister said the rakyat showed courage in replacing the old government with a "new, clean and democratic administration".

His remarks elicited boos from BN lawmakers, forcing Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof (photo) to intervene in order to restore calm.

Towards the end of his speech, Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong) heckled Lim, saying Harapan's budget was mostly a rebranding exercise, "with a lot of copy-pasting."

During a subsequent exchange between Harapan lawmakers and their BN counterparts, someone from the opposition shouted "Nobita".

Nobita is a character in the Japanese cartoon Doraemon, whom Lim's critics claim shares a resemblance with the finance minister.

Taking to Twitter, former minister Zainuddin Maidin criticised the BN lawmakers who heckled Lim.

"All of you heard BN supporters booing Lim... This is to cover their own embarrassment but it reveals the faces of those conspiring with the robber, who plundered the nation's coffers,” he said.
