PKR polls close with Azmin set to win

The PKR party election has come to a close with Mohamed Azmin Ali looking set to defeat his rival Mohd Rafizi Ramli for the deputy president post, but not without more problems along the way.

Among others, allegations of money politics have surfaced in Lanang, while a PKR election officer was arrested in Julau over an alleged “cyber attack”.

Moving ahead, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said 2,735 delegates will be attending the party’s national congress from Nov 16 to 18.

Death for ‘heinous crimes’

A nine-month-old baby has reportedly died after being raped and abused by her caretaker's husband, prompting public outrage.

Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, who has previously called for the abolition of the death penalty, has suggested that the courts should be allowed discretion to impose the death penalty against “heinous crimes” such as these.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has also called for stiffer punishments, but stopped short of calling for the alleged perpetrator’s death.

Villagers sceptical as Lynas highlights safety record

The Australian rare earth mining company told a public hearing in Kuantan that it has adhered to all regulations to ensure the safety of its refinery’s operations and is prepared to continue to do so.

However, members of the public at the hearing appear sceptical and made clear that they want no nonsense from the government.
