Yoursay: Now that Musa Aman is charged, Taib Mahmud should be next

YOURSAY | ‘When will the White Rajah of Sarawak be hauled in?’

Musa charged with receiving RM263m in alleged bribes

Anonymous #6933704: As head of government in charge of Sabah, Musa Aman should not have treated the forest and timber resources like his family assets.

Going by the number of charges, Musa appears to be a habitual offender.

If he had been a morally upright Sabah CM and tolerated no corruption, he would not have been hauled up and treated as a crook.

Shanmugam V K Subrayan: When will the White Rajah of Sarawak be hauled in?

Was he given immunity from prosecution after personally going to Putrajaya to meet PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad immediately after GE14? I wonder!

Anonymous: It amazes me why Abdul Taib Mahmud and his family have never been probed for wrecking Sarawak’s future.

Something is not right ... is Taib Mahmud untouchable?

Kangkung: Yes, the icing on the cake will be when Taib Mahmud is finally dragged to the courts to face charges of allegedly receiving billions in bribes in exchange for logging concessions.

Now that Musa Aman is charged, it would be a grave injustice if Taib Mahmud does not face similar charges.

Taib Mahmud has allegedly stolen more money than former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and Musa, combined.

Justice: Indeed, how about moving the action next door, Sarawak, MACC? Surely, it’s long overdue.

In two years’ time, Sarawak will have its state election. So MACC's action in Sarawak will make it even more exciting, especially for the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Clever Voter: Spotting a white beard, Musa Aman could be mistaken for Saddam Hussein or even Santa Claus.

The latter is preferred but the reputation of Musa is well known. He was the king in the "land below the wind". Sabah indigenous people had no say.

The authorities should try to recover the assets, much of these are parked overseas. Whatever has been disclosed is just the tip of the iceberg.

Hope: The amount of bribes is mind-boggling. I can't imagine how many acres of rainforest will have to be cleared (perhaps millions of acres?), for someone to be willing to pay that kind of bribes to get the timber concession licence.

This is so sad.

It was AGC, not us, who didn't want to charge Musa, MACC tells PM

Kim Quek: Why did Mahathir go out of his way to protect former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, despite the latter’s obvious abuse of power to close the iron-clad case against Musa Aman?

Is it not silly to try to shift the blame (of not charging Musa) to MACC, when it was the latter who had protested against Gani closing the Musa case?

The answer may lie in Mahathir feeling indebted to Gani for his loyal service to the former, in particular, the pivotal role he had played in Anwar Ibrahim’s Sodomy I conviction.

Gani’s falsification of evidence against Anwar was even reprimanded by the Federal Court then, where the current chief justice Richard Malanjum did not spare his harsh criticism.

Since then, prosecutor Gani was quickly promoted to become the attorney-general, presumably as payback for his “invaluable service”. And that perhaps also explains why, as the unfailing loyalist, he was picked to oversee the current 1MDB probe.

Mahathir must be cautious in his effort to shield his cronies and loyalists in this New Malaysia, as in this case, where he may be liable to be accused of collusion to cover up Gani’s potential criminal liability.

Lipdah: The PM should know that the decision to prosecute is with the attorney-general and not with MACC. I hope it is clear to him now.

Anonymous_1527925538: Yes, MACC currently does not have any power to charge in court. They can only hand over their investigation report and recommendations to the attorney-general. The attorney-general can then decide whether to charge or not.

The Wakandan: Anyway, the truth is out. The MACC investigated and then submitted it to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC). Gani did not prosecute for reasons best known to himself.

Likewise, his successor Mohamed Apandi Ali did not prosecute Najib’s involvement in the 1MDB scandal, and also for reasons that only he would be able to tell us.

Najib’s government went to the dogs, its machinery did not function independently, and was at his mercy.

The long hand of the law finally has caught up with Musa, and we can breathe a sigh of relief. For too long, wolves had been on the prowl, devouring the nation's wealth until it was left on its knees.

Now it is a time of reckoning and we pray that justice is deservedly served.

Roger 5201: Gani could have recused himself if he is related to Musa – letting Musa go is tantamount to nepotism.

He must, therefore, explain why he declined to charge Musa for graft involving some RM263 million when the evidence is overwhelmingly in the prosecutor's favour.

Caripasal: Read carefully. MACC stated that that the AGC did not charge Musa because it was believed to be "political donation".

That would help Gani as he would now say he did not charge Musa as he believed it was a political donation. Gani would be a so-called innocent man with MACC’s "clarification".

Next, would be the call by those trying to protect Gani – by shouting the need to monitor "political donations" – to complete the show.
