Despite the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) deciding to postpone all its proceedings on 1MDB related to cases currently being heard in court, its investigation into the National Audit Department's report on the state investment firm is set to proceed as planned.

PAC chairperson Ronald Kiandee told reporters today that the committee arrived at the decision to postpone all proceedings after meeting with attorney-general Tommy Thomas.

"The 1MDB proceedings will not go ahead, even though there is a parliamentary motion for it, and we have informed the speaker of this.

"The proceedings are postponed sine die," he said after the PAC meeting in Parliament.

However, PAC deputy chairperson Wong Kah Woh later elaborated that its investigation into the 1MDB audit report would continue as planned.

"In our meeting with the attorney-general on Nov 2, when we informed him that our first investigation is related to the (audit) report which is said to have been amended, he clearly said there was no problem, and no issues regarding sub judice and prejudice.

"To begin with, PAC will hold the proceedings on Dec 4, 5 and 6 to investigate the issue," he said.

Two witnesses are expected to be called in for the proceedings, former auditor-general Ambrin Buang and current auditor-general Madinah Mohamad.

The other proceedings, Wong said, would be postponed to a later date.

He also explained that the 1MDB probe is split into several segments and the probe on the 1MDB audit report is among the earliest segments.

In 2016, the audit report on 1MDB was classified under OSA, but that status was lifted on May 15 after Pakatan Harapan won the general election.

On Oct 29, Wong dropped a bombshell when he told the Dewan Rakyat that the National Audit Department's report on 1MDB to the PAC had been tampered with.

Wong did not shed details on his claims but Ambrin has since denied allegations that the document was tampered and stood by the contents of the report that was completed in 2016.
