Idris Haron ordered out of Malacca assembly

MALACCA DUN | Malacca Legislative Assembly speaker Omar Jaafar today ordered opposition leader Idris Haron out of the house for the rest of the day for having ignored his directive to stop objecting to his decision.

Omar had dismissed an emergency motion brought by Idris to debate the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd), but Idris continued to insist that it should be debated.

The speaker rejected the motion saying that Putrajaya has yet to make any stand on the ratification of Icerd.

“If we debate the motion and adopt any decision, the decision will be overruled when the federal government makes a stand. We will have wasted our time,” he said.

Idris continued to object the speaker’s decision and engaged in a verbal battle for over 10 minutes with the Pakatan Harapan assemblyperson, before he was escorted out of the house by the sergeant-at-arms.

All the other 12 BN assemblypersons then walked out of the house in protest over the speaker’s decision, and missed the following debate on the setting up of the Malacca special select committee on competency, accountability and transparency (Melcat).
