PKR Youth has pledged not to let the government discriminate against Sabah and Sarawak in terms of wealth distribution and development.

Deputy speaker Mohammad Azihan Che Seman was responding to a speech made by Kuching PKR chief Simon Siah at the wing's congress in Ideal Convention Centre, Shah Alam, today.

Siah had urged the government not to sideline the Borneo state.

"We give our respect to Sarawak, please stand up. (We pledge) that the administration will not discriminate against Sabah and Sarawak. Can we do that or not?" asked Azihan.

The audience gave a thunderous "Yes".

Earlier, Siah had urged the Pakatan Harapan government not to follow the previous administration in neglecting Sarawak.

"The state's wealth was stolen and the land was robbed by cronies, people were suffering," he said when debating the speech of PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

He alleged that the Sarawak state government perceived the indigenous people to be “stupid and uneducated”, and that they would sell the customary land once they owned IT.

"But my question is, won’t others who are in need of money also sell their land? So, let them (the indigenous people) decide," he said.

"If anyone in this room is feeling generous and would like to donate overseas, (please) donate to Sarawak," he added.

Siah claimed that hostile sentiments between the people in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia had been caused by the state government, which banned leaders from entering the Borneo state.

He said when the indigenous people were “rich and strong”, other ethnicities would also benefit.

'Don’t ignore young Sabah women'

At the PKR Women’s wing debate next door, Sabah delegate Norsitifarikh Mustil (photo) called on the central leadership to pay attention to the needs of members in the state.

“Please listen and please pay attention. Do not ignore the voices of the young women in Sabah PKR.

“[...] We know how to assess our leaders, we know which leaders are the best for Sabah.

“Do not look down upon Sabah members [...] we want the central leadership to listen and take a stand on this issue,” she said to cheers and claps from the other delegates.
