PKR AGM | In her final speech as PKR president today, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail urged party members to look ahead and set their sights on capturing Sarawak in the 2021 state elections.

Speaking at the 13th PKR national congress in Shah Alam, the Wan Azizah said while it might take another year or so before the state elections are called, all leaders should start preparing to assist Pakatan Harapan's election machinery. 

"This is to ensure that the plight of Sarawakians is better taken care of when we capture the state, like what happened in Sabah.

"Not just in Sarawak, but Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Perlis must also make early preparations (ahead of the 15th general election)," she said.

In the meantime, Wan Azizah urged leaders and members to continue engaging with the people.

"We need more engagement with them. Don't sideline the people in these states. They also need to be taken care of," she said.

Support federal gov't

Wan Azizah, the deputy prime minister, also urged party members at the state level to back the federal government's policies, programmes and agenda.

"There is no issue with criticising and having a different opinion if it helps to improve on weaknesses, but our real duty is to push for its success and explain the government's policies and programmes to the people," she said.

Wan Azizah who also serves as the women, family and community development minister, pointed out in her speech that various programmes have been introduced by her ministry, including I-Suri and MySME Lady.

At the end of the fractious party polls, which ended with the public reconciliation of deputy president contenders Mohamed Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli, Wan Azizah reiterated calls for party members to unite.

"The bigger agenda which must be fulfilled is to translate the reform spirit into our state and federal administrations," she said.
