The Johor government agrees in principle to the efforts to revive the crooked bridge proposal.

However, the state government is currently conducting preliminary studies on the proposal for the third link between Pengerang and Pulau Ubin, Singapore, said the Johor Works, Infrastructure and Transport Committee chairperson Mazlan Bujang.

“The crooked bridge project is still in the early planning stage and several factors have to be considered to ensure that the project benefits the people of Johor and reduces the costs for the state government,” he said in reply to a question from Ayub Jamil (BN-Rengit) at the Johor State Legislative Assembly sitting in Iskandar Puteri today.

Ayub asked for information on the crooked bridge and if it would resolve the unending problem of congestion at the Johor Causeway.

Mazlan said the crooked bridge was the brainchild of Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he was the fourth prime minister.

On the third link, he said it would resolve the traffic congestion on the Johor Causeway as well as at Tanjung Kupang near Gelang Patah.

Meanwhile, Johor Investment, International Trade and Utilities Committee chairperson, Jimmy Puah Wee Tse, said the state government had spent RM2.6 million in September and October on the scheme to provide 10 cubic metres of free water to the B40 group in the state.

Puah was replying to questions from Abd Taib Abu Bakar (BN-Machap), Yeo Tung Siong (PH-Pekan Nenas) and Zaiton Ismail (BN-Sungai Balang) on the implementation of the scheme, the number of people who had benefited from it and the costs to the government.
