Pakatan Harapan Youth has called for a stringent screening process for opposition party defectors who want to join the new ruling coalition.

In a joint statement, the youth chiefs of the coalition's four component parties said the people's mandate for a government that was democratic, honourable and with integrity could not be taken lightly.

"Therefore, Harapan Youth proposes and urges the Harapan leadership to conduct stringent vetting processes on any individuals or groups who want to join Harapan.

"Strict rules must apply, such as vetting by the MACC, requiring that they declare assets as well as not giving them any key positions at federal and state levels," they said.

They added that those joining should also make a public apology for supporting the previous government.

The statement was signed by Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir (above), Amanah youth chief Mohd Sany Hamzan and DAP Youth chief Howard Lee.

They said defectors could only be accepted if they fulfil all the conditions and no exceptions should be made.

"Harapan is not a licence to seek wealth and power. Harapan must reject any form of kleptocracy, corruption and abuse of power that was associated with Umno/BN.

"There can be no compromise," they said.
