Officers tie the knot in first police mass wedding ceremony
Two police constables went from being comrades in arms to jinjang pelamin (sitting on the wedding dais) today, as they tied the knot in the first police mass wedding ceremony.
Muhammad Faizuddin Mohd Dali and Mahiza Othman – who graduated from the police basic training course six months ago – were among 20 couples who participated in the ceremony held at the Police Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Mahiza, who hails from Dengkil, met Faizuddin through social media about five years ago and were dating before they decided to apply to join the force together...

Muhammad Faizuddin Mohd Dali and Mahiza Othman – who graduated from the police basic training course six months ago – were among 20 couples who participated in the ceremony held at the Police Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Mahiza, who hails from Dengkil, met Faizuddin through social media about five years ago and were dating before they decided to apply to join the force together.
"We first knew each other through Twitter, having established a connection by the virtue of having a common friend.
"Then we became friends, and later started seeing each other. We were already together when the police opened the posts for constable training, so we decided to send in our applications," she said.
Faizuddin said they were lucky that both of them were accepted to undergo training together.
However, the couple kept their relationship under wraps throughout the course, and only planned to tie the knot after graduation.
"I only kept my eye on her from a distance... Who knows, maybe she would be attracted to someone else during training!" quipped the groom.
Expressing their appreciation to event organisers, Bukit Aman and Bank Muamalat Bhd, the couple said they initially planned to get solemnised next year, but took the opportunity to be a part of the historical event upon learning about it two months ago.
The event today also saw 19 other police personnel marrying their partners in a grand ceremony attended by top officers and Home Ministry secretary-general Alwi Ibrahim, among others.
Three of the couples include civilian officers attached to the force.
In his speech at the event, inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the mass wedding was the first such event in the 211-year history of the force.
Thanking Bank Muamalat, which contributed RM100,000 to hold the event, Fuzi said he hoped that similar events could be held in future.
He said such initiatives could help young couples marry without undertaking too heavy a financial burden.
He also reminded the newlyweds on the importance of the marriage institution, saying that it is a responsibility that must not be taken lightly.
"In Islam, a family is an institution that is built based on marriage. Marriage is a responsibility, so fulfil your responsibility to the best of your ability.
"I also want to remind all of you to defend the integrity of your rumahtangga (household). There is no relationship that won't go through tests.
"Like in the P Ramlee song, sedangkan lidah lagi tergigit, inikan suami isteri (any marriage will have its ups and downs)," he said.
