Fireworks worth RM2.2m seized in Johor police raid

The Region Two Marine Police Force has seized firecrackers and fireworks, as well as two vehicles, estimated to be worth RM2.2 million in a raid on a house in Taman Pulai Bayu, near Iskandar Puteri, yesterday.

Johor police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said in the raid at 4.15pm, 600 boxes containing 29 types of firecrackers and fireworks worth RM2.2 million were seized, as well as four handphones and two vehicles.

“In the raid, we also detained four local men aged between 18 and 25, believed to be employed as cargo handlers since November, with a salary of RM1,500 to RM2,000 each.

“Initial investigations found that the firecrackers were believed to have been smuggled for the local festive season market throughout Johor,” he told reporters at the Region Two PPM Base today.

Khalil added that the house had been made a store for the goods for about two months.

"Two of the suspects have previous drug-related criminal records,” he added.

All the suspects have been remanded from today until tomorrow (Jan 2) for further action.
