Several Penang PKR division chiefs are not happy with the appointments of the state leadership in a meeting chaired by Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar last week.

Former PKR Penang chief Mansor Othman (above) said the meeting should have been called by party president Anwar Ibrahim, not his daughter.

"The meeting and appointment of state leaders were not conducted properly. Why did Nurul Izzah chair the meeting? It should be chaired by the president," said Mansor, who is Nibong Tebal MP.

"The meeting was also not attended by some division leaders. I did not attend it, there was no representation for Tanjung or Bukit Mertajam," he added, when met in Tasek Gelugor.

Asked why he did not go for the meeting although invited, Mansor said that it was because the meeting was not “conducted properly”.

"If you want to be democratic, if you want your party to be respected, then follow the proper procedures," he added.

Mansor expressed his disappointment about the state PKR's situation, saying "I no longer care what happens, because even if I were to say anything, no one cares".

"Even if the sky falls or earth opens up, I don't care anymore," said Mansor, who has been in the state leadership since the party was formed in 1999.

In the meeting last week, Nurul Izzah had announced Tourism, Art and Culture deputy minister Bakhtiar Wan Chik (photo) as Penang PKR acting chief.

Bakhtiar replaces Nurul Izzah who has taken a leave of absence.

"Why is Bakhtiar only acting chief? If the party is serious about stabilising Penang, he should be directly appointed as the state chief, not merely acting chief," Mansor added.

Before Bakhtiar's appointment, there were ramblings in Penang that the state committee was "headless".

Seberang Jaya assemblyperson Dr Afif Bahardin said the state needed input from the party's leadership in Penang and any effort to develop the state will be affected by the delay in appointing the state chief.

Nurul Izzah is firm about her resignation from all party posts although the 13 PKR divisions wanted her to stay on as state chief.

She also let go her party vice-president post and said that she will not serve the government in any capacity.
