Rina Harun calls for woman candidate in Semenyih

Rina Harun has called on the leadership of Pakatan Harapan to consider fielding a woman candidate in the by-election for the Semenyih state seat on March 2.

The Srikandi Bersatu chief said the consideration was valid as the number of women and men voters were almost equal in the constituency, besides the availability of eligible women candidates of calibre.

"Not only in Semenyih, but for the whole of Malaysia, women voters make up 50 percent of the total,” she told reporters after officiating at the 'Dialogue With Malaysian Women Entrepreneurs' event in Kuala Lumpur today.

Rina said the Srikandi wing had already submitted its list of candidates for consideration by the top party leadership.

"For the moment, we have yet to meet at the leadership level (on the proposed candidate of the Semenyih by-election).

"(Harapan chairperson) Dr Mahathir Mohamad is also abroad still,” she said.

Commenting further, Rina, who is also the rural and regional development minister, said Srikandi Bersatu would give its full cooperation and support to any candidate selected by Harapan to defend the seat.
