Malacca Bersatu chief Mohd Redzuan Yusof has reportedly been hit by a vote of no confidence.
Sources told Malaysiakini that the challenge was mounted against Redzuan, who is also the entrepreneur development minister, on Friday.
"It was a unanimous vote by the division leaders, I was told that the local leaders were not happy with Redzuan. This matter has been brought up to (Bersatu president) Muhyiddin Yassin and (chairperson) Dr Mahathir Mohamad," a supreme council source said.
Malaysiakini is attempting to contact Redzuan, as well as Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya for comment.
It is understood that the Malacca Bersatu rebels are pushing for state government executive councillor Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen to be the party's new state chief.
Rafiq declined to comment when contacted.
It is believed that the revolt was prompted by anger towards Redzuan's decision to sack former Kuala Lumpur mayor Ruslin Hasan as the Ayer Limau state constituency coordinator two weeks ago, as well as a move to dismiss Nazri Ramli as Masjid Tanah Bersatu deputy chief.
Another Bersatu supreme council source said Redzuan was a divisive figure in the party.
"He is an ambitious one too... He even tried to canvass in the supreme council to put himself as the successor to Muhyiddin for the president's post and even eyeing for Mahathir's position," the source added.
I am just a common Chinese guy and had the opportunity to meet him personally after a mere request. I realised he is hands on with profound knowledge of technical terms and sincerely open, but also critical, to all ideas on how to improve business and industry environment with our economy in mind. He embraces the human spirit as the catalyst for entrepreneurism and innovation. He is driven to prove local capability to spur investments. From my brief meeting with him, I found he's a good man and his dept extremely friendly and hard working. I wish his character be felt before he be judged.
You think all these infighting within Bersatu is because the fellows have altruistic notions of what is best for the country or how to deliver them?? NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!! These fellows barking now probably did not get the meat, nor bones. Remember Bersatu Vice president, By Hook bin By Crook???? They are taking the cue from him lah
Rakyat also dont have confidence on him as entrepreneur development minister. What have he done so far? Nothing. He just sit down there, take blind salary and allowances and enjoy special privilleges as federal minister. His education - bachelor of civil engineering, worked with petronas for 3 years and was doing own business before joining politics. How his academic, career and experience fit the ministerial portfolio he is heading right now is big question mark. Maybe succssful towkay can become a better entrepreneur development minister than him. Maybe Rafizi was right on 10 May 2018, the ministerial appointment was bull dozed that's why now we are having so many lousy ministers.
