Hit by no-confidence challenge, Redzuan denies eyeing top Bersatu posts

Malacca Bersatu chief Mohd Redzuan Yusof has dismissed allegations that he is eyeing the top posts in his party, including those of chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and president Muhyiddin Yassin.
As Redzuan told Malaysiakini today, he will not contest these posts in the party polls slated for the end of the year, as he wants to focus on his duties as entrepreneur development minister.
He noted, however, that he would not mind an appointment to a party post, just as he was picked to sit on Bersatu's supreme council and to head the Malacca chapter.
"My loyalty to Mahathir and Muhyiddin is plain to see," he said.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that a group of Malacca Bersatu leaders mounted a no-confidence vote challenge against Redzuan, after he sacked former Kuala Lumpur mayor Ruslin Hasan as the Ayer Limau Bersatu coordinator, and attempted to remove Nazri Ramli as the Masjid Tanah Bersatu deputy chief.
Another Bersatu supreme council source said that Redzuan was a divisive figure, who allegedly canvassed the council to position himself as the successor to Muhyiddin and even Mahathir.
'Ulterior motive'
While confirming that an attempt to oust him via a no-confidence vote did take place last Friday, Redzuan questioned whether the move was in line with the party constitution.
Since the appointment of state heads is carried out by the party leadership, their removal should follow the same procedure, he said.
"They (the rebels) claim to be carrying the mandate of the people, asking me to step down. But (the group of people that showed up) has no more than five people.
"I believe they have an ulterior motive in view of the party elections.
"I was asked (by party leaders) to start the Malacca chapter, and I was the number one member in the state. Why would I destroy what I built? It doesn't make sense," he said.
Redzuan also denied trying to remove Nazri as the Masjid Tanah Bersatu deputy chief.
"Why should he be dismissed? We have the party elections, so there is no reason," he added.
'Best solution'
Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya, meanwhile, told Malaysiakini that he hopes the Malacca Bersatu leadership will solve the issue through discussion.
"(They should do this) with a meeting among them, rather than coming out with statements, and blaming each other. That is not the way.
"I would advise them against issuing press statements, and find the best solution for internal party problems," he said.
"I will monitor them over the latest issue. The party headquarters will try to solve the issue amicably, without involving any vote of no-confidence.
"It is not the time for this. Our focus is more towards developing the party."
You think all these infighting within Bersatu is because the fellows have altruistic notions of what is best for the country or how to deliver them?? NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
