Azmin: Petrol ceiling price reduction nothing to do with polls
Putrajaya's move to reduce the ceiling price of RON95 petrol from RM2.20 to RM2.08 per litre has nothing to do with the Semenyih by-election, said Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali.
"This has nothing to do with the by-election. It is because of the trend of the global oil prices," he said when met while campaigning in Semenyih.

Petrol prices worldwide are quite stable holding between US$65 and US$67 per barrel over the past few weeks, he said.
"So we felt that this is the right time for us to reduce the ceiling price of the petrol from RM2.20 to RM2.08 per litre," he added.
Two days after the government announced the 12 sen reduction for RON95's ceiling price, the price for RON97 was fixed at RM2.43 per litre, an increase of 5 sen effective midnight today.
This immediately raised eyebrows and some quarters speculated that Putrajaya's move was related to the Semenyih by-election slated for tomorrow.
The government said the price of diesel will remain at RM2.18 per litre and all petrol prices will be effective from March 2 to 8.
Putrajaya reinstated the floating mechanism for weekly petrol and diesel prices from Jan 1 this year.
