King: Cultivate genuine racial unity, not mere slogans

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has urged the genuine cultivation of racial ties instead of mere slogans.
The king said this in his inaugural address to the Dewan Rakyat when officiating the first meeting of the second session of the 14th Parliament this morning.
"Various efforts have been undertaken to strengthen unity among the multi-racial people in this country.
"In this matter, calls for unity must not be mere slogans. Instead, the spirit and effort for unity must be genuinely cultivated with sincerity and appreciation," he added.
Sultan Abdullah also stressed on the importance of upholding the Federal Constitution and to act against attempts to undermine unity and harmony.
The monarch said the position of Islam as the religion of the federation should be appreciated by all, regardless of race and religion.
"Islam is not exclusive to any particular group. It is a universal way of life that brings blessings to all.
"I support the government's efforts to promote the values and culture of Islam through the concept of 'Rahmatan Lil Alamin' (blessings for all) and 'Maqasid Syariah' (higher objectives of syariah) based on true Islam that is translated through the distinguished actions and character of Malaysians," he added.
Sultan Abdullah said that in strengthening Islam in Malaysia, other religions must also be respected.
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong also reminded social media users to act within the confines of the law.
"Even though my government celebrates openness and freedom of speech, this freedom must be practised within the constraints of the law of societal norms.
"Enforcement agencies must act sternly against any circulation of material on social media that breaches the law," he said.
In his speech, Sultan Abdullah also listed various ongoing government efforts to help the bottom 40 percent (B40) income earners.
"The people should trust the government's various efforts, even though its impact may not be felt immediately.
"The people should also be realistic with their hopes in my government and work towards improving their well-being," he added.
Ampun Tuanku!!!! This hamba thinks the way things are as of the moment , the Malays and Muslims are always to be considered of superior breed than the non Malays and non Muslims.. The non Malays are forever to be treated as pendatang, penumpang, kafir Babi Cina, kafir Babi India etc etc. Tuanku, with this statement of yours, should I, be from now on, be reassured that equal respect will be given to all races and religions? Will this command from the royalty be filtered down to all politicians and civil servants, including the Muslim religious bodies? Or should I just accept that this is one good well written speech to appear good in the news, more so the international news ?? Please do reassure us, while we wait with bated breath. Ampun Tuanku.
