Over the past few months, former premier Najib Abdul Razak, much to the bewilderment of his critics and political rivals, has become a social media sensation and is drawing huge crowds at his events.

The catalyst for this is the "Malu apa Bossku" campaign, which has transformed the once elitist and aristocratic politician into an accessible man-on-the-street figure.

This is often illustrated by a caricature of Najib sporting a hoodie and pair of jeans on a motorcycle.

The "Malu apa Bossku" phenomenon has prompted a local comedian to churn out a music video, which mocks the campaign.

Speaking to Malaysiakini this afternoon, Allan Pereira said he found the "Malu apa Bossku" campaign to be so "hysterical" he decided to give it a comedic twist.

"It is just satire... to look at things in a humorous manner.

"We need comedy to balance the animosity. So we thought it would be funny, but at the same time thought provoking as well," he added.

Pereira said the video titled "Malaysia Got No Shame Shame Shame" was recorded last Friday.

"The recording was done in about six hours. We spent 20 hours editing. I conceived the idea and penned the lyrics a week before," he added.

Among others, the lyrics read: "For nine long years, you were the country's main man. But we found out soon enough, of evidence, a scandalous man."

Najib, who was prime minister from 2009 to 2018, is facing a slew of court charges related to the 1MDB scandal.
