All is calm in PAS - and Hadi quips there 'are no video activities'

PAS MUKTAMAR | All is calm in PAS, as evidenced by the lack of contests for the top positions in the party in its internal elections this year, according to party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

The top three positions in PAS Women, Youth and Ulama wings were won without contest, as well as the president's and deputy president's posts of Hadi and Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who defended their positions for the 2019-2021 term.

"That is a sign of calm in PAS. There is no turmoil in PAS," Hadi said when quizzed on the matter during a press conference after his policy speech at the launch of the 65th PAS Muktamar in Kuantan.

"And there are no 'video activities' in PAS," the Marang MP quipped.

Hadi further expressed confidence that there will no longer be any major split within PAS, this time as a result of its plans to cooperate with Umno.

"All those who cannot accept our plans have already left the party so it is easier for us (to proceed).

"They have left to form Amanah," he said in reference to the departure of PAS leaders in 2015 following the party's polls where its conservative faction wiped out the progressives.

On the process of forging a new relationship with Umno, Kedah PAS Youth delegate Nasrun Othman yesterday noted there remains a segment of veteran party members who are hesitant due to the failure of past attempt at cooperation.

Hadi, while confident that these concerns would be allayed, also said adopting a cautious approach is normal as the two parties have a history of being political rivals.

"We must realise that there are some in PAS with a phobia of Umno, and there are some in Umno with a phobia of PAS.

"That is due to events in the past that can be settled," he said, urging all parties to set aside their differences and find similarities on basis of Malay-Muslim unity.
