“He has just been appointed, so we give him a chance before hurling all sorts of speculation against him,” he said when met at the Parliament lobby.
Ismail, the Bera MP, said he believes Najib is not a liability to BN, even with his ongoing trials related to the 1MDB scandal.
BN lost the 2018 general election because of Pakatan Harapan’s promises and a campaign of slander against Najib, he added.

However, Ismail said that despite all allegations against him in his trial, Najib has received huge support with his "Bossku" moniker.
He pointed out that Najib will not represent the opposition coalition and will not be involved in the affairs of its component parties.
"We need anyone who can advise. Besides Najib, anyone can also be an adviser to us (BN)," he said.
Yesterday, Najib was appointed as the BN advisory board chairperson.
His appointment came less than two weeks after Ahmad Zahid Hamidi resumed his duties as Umno president and BN chairperson.
Najib is facing 42 charges of money laundering, abuse of power and criminal breach of trust while Zahid is facing 87 graft-related charges.
