Beng Hock's family to meet AG next week

Teoh Beng Hock's family will meet the Attorney-General on the issue of re-investigating Teoh Beng Hock's death under "wrongful confinement" next week, said Ramkarpal Singh.
"Our lawyer had sent a letter to the AG two weeks ago. We hope to see him and seek an explanation," Beng Hock's sister, Lee Lan , told the media last night at a candle vigil memorial.
She expressed her disappointment in the government's decision to reopen the investigation under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement.
She said she wanted to meet the attorney-general Tommy Thomas and revealed that their lawyer is arranging the meeting.
When approached, the lawyer for Teoh’s family revealed that Tommy Thomas has replied and he will meet the Teoh's family in the coming week. However, the exact date and time has not been fixed.
Not forgetting Beng Hock
On July 16, 2009, Teoh was found dead after falling nine floors from MACC's former Selangor headquarters in Shah Alam, where he had been held overnight for questioning.
Tuesday, July 16, 2019 will be the 10th anniversary of his death.
In memory of Teoh, a hundred people in dark coloured shirts, including Teoh's family, friends, and activists from various NGOs, gathered at the entrance of Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam last night.
Sporting a baby bump, Lee Lan gave a speech in front of the building where her brother was found dead ten years ago.
Trying hard to hold back her tears during her speech, Lee Lan urged the politicians not to forget their promise after gaining power.
"Ten years ago, when you were in the opposition, those in DAP, PKR and Amanah were standing here yelling 'Who has killed Teoh?' At that time, you were helpless and had no power to order the police to probe.
"We fought together for ten years, from the coroner's court to the high court, also the court of appeal, and finally the court of appeal ruled that Teoh’s death was caused by injuries from unlawful acts by someone.
"... Ten years ago, you had no power, but now we have given all the power to you. Have you done justice to Beng Hock?"
Besides holding white candles to show support, some student activists sang songs and performed.
Meanwhile, Teoh Beng Hock Trust For Democracy chairman Ng Geok Chee said that the "dysfunctional state" failed to do justice for Teoh ten years ago, but the perpetrators have yet to be brought to justice despite the regime change.
She also revealed that they had tried to meet the MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya several times, but had failed to receive any response.
"We have contacted the new MACC chief for an appointment several times. We contacted her privately and sent her a letter, but she never responded."
"We requested the police to speed up the investigation and charge MACC officers for homicide, but the police did not respond to us as well.
"We urged the government to form a task force comprised of the AG, police, Suhakam, Bar Council and Suaram to conduct a fresh investigation, but our words fell on deaf ears."
