PKR president Anwar Ibrahim (above) said he favours seeking an explanation from Johor Menteri Besar Sahruddin Jamal over allegations that the Johor palace had interfered in the decision to lower the maximum age for youths from 40 to 30.
"I want to get an explanation from the Johor menteri besar. I think that would be a better process," he told journalists at the Parliament lobby today.
Anwar was asked to comment on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's comment yesterday that the federal government will invalidate the Johor government's decision if there is evidence of royal interference.
The federal government has set the new youth age limit at 30, but the Johor government has made multiple U-turns after allegedly being caught in between the federal government and Johor palace, which prefers the status quo of 40-year-old.
The age limit will influence the composition of members, as well as the leadership of youth organisations throughout the country.
Yesterday, Mahathir said the palace has no right to interfere in the federal government's decision.
"We will invalidate Johor's decision if there is evidence of interference from the palace," he had said.
