The Election Commission has launched the MySPR Daftar website to allow Malaysians to register as electors and amend their voting information online.
Previously, those who wished to register as voters would have to fill up the EC's Form A in person at post offices, although the option remains available.
MySPR Daftar puts applicants through a three-step process.
A user account will first need to be created, with applicants providing their personal details, as well as an image of their MyKad, and a 'selfie' with it.
Once they receive a confirmation email and activate their user account, they can then fill in Form A and any additional forms online.
Registered voters can also amend their personal information online in the same way.
MySPR Daftar was introduced by EC chief Azhar Azizan Harun (centre in photo) today.
“Changes have to be made in accordance with technological trends, and the EC has taken this opportunity to introduce MySPR Daftar, which was created to simplify the voter registration process, and the process of changing voting districts for those who have changed their addresses on their ICs.
“This can now be done online anytime and from anywhere using your smartphone or tablet.
"This is clearly a lot easier and efficient compared to conventional methods,” he said at a press conference on the sidelines of the EC's 'Make A Change, Let’s Do It Together' forum series at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
Reform process
Azhar also announced that the EC had set up six committees as part of its 'Pelan Reformasi Pilihan Raya' (Election Reforms Plan) to improve the running of elections.
These committees, to be led by EC commissioners, would be tasked with looking into redelineation, the electoral roll, absent voters, electoral offences, the electoral process and the EC as a whole.
Azhar said that these commissioners would be working closely with the Electoral Reform Committee to make improvements.
“The ERC and the EC are committed to working together to study and scrutinise aspects that need to be updated and improved in terms of its operations and structure,” he said.
