Minister to meet Penang mufti over call for more Shiite teachings
Education Minister Maszlee Malik will hold a discussion with Penang mufti Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor over the latter's suggestion for the ministry to include facts about Shiite teachings in Islamic Studies syllabus.
The suggestion was made by Wan Salim who has urged for a more tolerant approach towards Shiite as well as other beliefs in Islam.

The suggestion was made by Wan Salim who has urged for a more tolerant approach towards Shiite as well as other beliefs in Islam.
"On that, we will discuss later with the Penang mufti," Maszlee told reporters after attending "Let's Gather with YB Menteri Pendidikan Malaysia 2019" programme at the UiTM Puncak Alam earlier today.
He said this when asked to comment on the idea opined by Wan Salim.
In an interview with Malaysiakini recently, Wan Salim was seen taking a softer approach towards Shiite although several states in the country had issued decrees that Shiite was a threat to the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah school of Islamic thought.
For the record, the National Fatwa Council and Islamic Development Department (Jakim) had come up with a decision branding all streams of the Shiite school of thought as deviant from Islamic teachings.
Shiite is said to be second largest Islamic branch in the world with many followers in Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain, Lebanon, Yemen and Pakistan.
