It is up to the Perak DAP state committee to resolve its internal fighting, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
“Can we stick to the Finance Ministry issues? We leave it to the Perak state committee to resolve it,” he said when asked about the Perak chapter’s infighting.
He said this after attending an event to launch 1Utama Shopping Centre’s 1Pay e-wallet and OneShop e-commerce platform in Bandar Utama today.
On Wednesday, two office-bearers in Perak DAP had resigned from their positions over a dispute with the party’s state chief Nga Kor Ming.
Malim Nawar assemblyperson Leong Cheok Keng and Pokok Assam assemblyperson Leow Thye Yih resigned as deputy treasurer and assistant secretary, respectively.
Leong said they were dissatisfied with Nga’s statement that the status of Perak executive councillor Paul Yong, who is currently facing rape charges in court, would be discussed at the Pakatan Harapan level.
Nga (below) then said the tiff with Leong and Leow would be solved internally while taking the blame for the dispute.
However, a later statement by the Perak state committee said Leong and Leow had made baseless allegations that defied logic.
On separate matters, Lim, who is finance minister, said there are no new updates on the government’s toll acquisition proposal and asked reporters to wait for the official statement with regard to the samurai bonds.
He reassured that the government has no plans to bring back the Goods and Services Tax which it abolished in August last year and had replaced it with the Sales and Services Tax.
On the proposed petrol subsidy for the B40, he passed the buck to Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution, saying that it was under the latter’s jurisdiction.
“That one is under Saifuddin so I do not think it is appropriate for me to make any comments, please ask Saifuddin,” he said.
On whether Sarawak would be getting more oil royalty soon, as promised in Pakatan Harapan’s election manifesto, Lim said the present government is facing “legacy issues” from the previous government and thus is unable to fulfil its manifesto.
“You must understand that the previous government had caused enormous amounts of funds to be either wasted or put Malaysia in trouble, and you are looking at funds of RM150 billion.
“When you have RM150 billion tied up, definitely this makes it difficult for us to implement our wishlist immediately.
“So, we hope the people can understand that this is something that we are looking at, implementing the promises we made, not just in Peninsular Malaysia but also in Sabah and Sarawak," he said.
Lim cited developments in the Pan-Borneo highway project as a sign that the Harapan government has put emphasis and priority on Sabah and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, infighting within Perak DAP continued today with state party assistant organising secretary A Sivasubramaniam taking a swipe at Perak DAP secretary Wong Kah Woh.
In a statement, Wong said Perak DAP's leadership supported Nga's leadership.
He also urged Perak DAP to pull together as a team to serve the people
"Always remember, team spirit is what brought us together," the Ipoh Timur MP said.
Sivasubramaniam, however, said Wong should not take the party's internal matters to the media if it has not been discussed in the party first.
"I am advising him, that if such behaviour continues, I will take steps to reveal everything that previously I did not wish to reveal. And if things get desperate, I will lodge a police report," the Buntong assemblyperson said.
