Police seek 56 more individuals for probe into Adib's murder

Almost a year after police announced that they were looking for 66 individuals to facilitate investigations into the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, only 10 have come forward.

The individuals sought are believed to have been at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ Subang Jaya and nearby locations when the riots took place in November last year.
"After the media published the pictures of these 66 individuals, only 10 had responded. The rest have not contacted us yet. We urge them to come forward," Huzir told the media at Bukit Aman today.
In December last year, the then inspector-general of police, Mohamad Fuzi Harun, said that seven of those 66 individuals had given their statements.
This was when Adib was still receiving treatment at the hospital and when the case was investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. It was changed to Section 302 for murder after Adib (photo) succumbed to his injuries at the National Heart Institute.
Huzir reiterated that four suspects allegedly linked to murder, as believed by many quarters, are not related to the case at all.
"Initially, police arrested 12 individuals for the investigation under Section 307. Six of them were at the riot scene near the temple and another six were picked up at another riot scene at MCT Tower - about a kilometre away from the temple.
"The four suspects were among those who were arrested at MCT Tower," he said.
Huzir said confusion regarding these four occurred after two media headlines dated Dec 10, 2018, stated "Four suspects allegedly assaulted Adib released from remand", and "Four suspects hit Muhammad Adib released under the court bond and police bail."
He added: "Hence, we hope all quarters will stop their speculations on the case."
Overall, police have received 5,178 reports in regard to the riot incident and 69 investigation papers (IPs) were opened, Huzir said.
"A total of 29 individuals have been charged in court for various offences in regard to the seven IPs. Fifty IPs have been classified as 'no further action', while 12 IPs are still open, including that on the murder."
The Shah Alam Coroner's Court last month ruled that Adib's death was due to a criminal act perpetrated by two or three unidentified assailants during the riot outside the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple last November.
