Anwar tells PKR grassroots to ignore discontentment of 'irrelevant' few

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has told his party to ignore the discontentment of one or two within the party as they are not relevant.

Speaking at the Federal Territories PKR convention, he said the party should focus on the agenda of the people instead.

"We in the party should focus on the agenda of the people. The ‘ngok-ngek, ngok-ngek' (complaints) made by one or two, just let them be, (they are) not relevant," he said.

Despite not identifying them, it is believed that he was referring to PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and his faction.

Citing the four state-level conventions he attended in Sabah, Penang, Johor and Kelantan, Anwar concluded that he has 90 percent of support from the grassroots level.

"All the division heads attended the Johor (PKR convention) yesterday. One division (leader) was absent in Kelantan and the Federal Territories. The response in Sabah was also good," he said.

"Where can you get 100 percent (support)? When you are a division head, you can't get it. This is the same when I am the party president.

"Is this a problem? You have 90 percent (grassroots members) supporting the party and the leadership. So, I am asking the 90 percent of you to make the voice of the people as PKR's voice," he said.

Without disclosing names, Anwar also reminded party leaders not to forget that their rise in the political arena was due to PKR.

As such, he said the leaders should not just distribute the resources to their own people.

At a press conference later, he clarified that he was just making a general reminder to all party leaders.

During his speech earlier, Anwar also said PKR minister or deputy minister are acting like Umno ministers.

"The victory (in the 14th general election) marked the beginning of our duty to the people. But some of us (began to) feel that we were always right.

"Look at how they answered in Parliament. I looked at it, it is like Umno ministers," he said.

"They (PKR minister or deputy minister) said the matters were implemented and the people understood and they were pleased.

"But, where is that they were pleased? We should listen to the people and we must have the humility to acknowledge the problem," the PKR president added.

He also pointed out the government should ensure its decision on housing is beneficial to the consumers instead of the housing developers.
