Special immigration lanes for Tg Piai voters to return from S'pore

The Malaysian Immigration Department is working closely with the Election Commission (EC) to have special immigration lanes opened for Tanjung Piai voters residing or working in Singapore to return and cast their votes in the parliamentary by-election on Nov 16.

Director-General of Immigration Khairul Dzaimee Daud (photo) and EC secretary Mohamed Elias Abu Bakar in a joint statement today said that the special lanes would be opened at the immigration counters at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Johor Bahru.

“The special lanes are limited to voters travelling by buses or cars only,” they said.

At the BSI, the special lanes would be opened at four counters designated for cars in Zone D, while for buses, the special lanes would be available at counters 1 to 4.

At the KSAB, the special lanes for cars will be opened at four counters on the contra-flow lanes, while for the buses, the special lanes would be opened at 12 counters in the coach bay.

They said the special lanes would be opened 24 hours on Friday (Nov 15), and from 12.01am to 4pm on Saturday (Nov 16).

They also advised all voters to bring their voter’s card or slip which could be printed out from the EC portal to enable the immigration officers at the counters to identify them as Tanjung Piai voters and allow them to use the special lanes.

“The Immigration Department and the EC will also promote the use of the special lanes from time to time via the mass media and their social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, to ensure the voters know about the facility,” they said.

Further information can be obtained by calling the Immigration at 03-88801555 or the EC at 03-88927018 during office hours.
