Failed pledges - Harapan has tarnished the term 'manifesto', says Puteri Umno chief
UMNO AGM | Umno Puteri chief Zahida Zarik Khan today took a swipe at Pakatan Harapan, alleging that the ruling coalition had damaged the word "manifesto" by failing to keep their election promises.
In her speech at the wing's annual general assembly, Zahida claimed that many young Malaysians felt cheated by Harapan's manifesto, which she described as a deception tool used by the coalition during the 14th general election.
UMNO AGM | Umno Puteri chief Zahida Zarik Khan today took a swipe at Pakatan Harapan, alleging that the ruling coalition had damaged the word "manifesto" by failing to keep their election promises.
In her speech at the wing's annual general assembly, Zahida (photo) claimed that many young Malaysians felt cheated by Harapan's manifesto, which she described as a deception tool used by the coalition during the 14th general election.
"There are many out there who expressed that they felt queasy now when they hear the word "manifesto".
"PH had tainted this term because the young people now feel that they have been cheated by the lengthy manifesto (by Harapan), which was only used a tool to deceive and to get into power for a short term," she told party members at the assembly held in the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Zahida said while BN had never promised for free education, its track record had shown the party's successes in building schools and higher learning institutions for the people.
Muafakat Nasional a new brand for the young people
Meanwhile, Zahida said Umno is also taking a new approach by offering their Muafakat Nasional concept to the younger generation.
This is to ensure that the youths would continue to be together and support the concept brought by Umno and PAS.
They are doing this especially because the voting age has now been lowered from 21 to 18.
She stressed that the support of the younger generation is very important for the party as they would be the deciding factor for Muafakat Nasional to secure victory in the next general election.
"Together, we will gain the confidence of this country's youths so that they can find a common ground under Muafakat Nasional.
"Puteri Umno is a movement for the youths. Muafakat has to be made a trend for them. Muafakat must be the new brand for our young people," she said.
