Ambiga should apologise if Harapan fails to deliver - Gerakan man

Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong has taken former Bersih chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan to task for saying that if the government does not implement certain key reforms by June, the people will “go to the streets” again.

"Remember, Ambiga and Bersih lost their neutrality before the election because they openly supported Pakatan Harapan.

"But now she is threatening to take to the streets for failure to deliver reforms? She should apologise to the people for calling on them to support Pakatan Harapan," Oh (photo) said in a statement today.

Ambiga was part of the Institutional Reforms Committee (IRC) - which falls under the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) - set up to look into the reform of key institutions such as the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC), the police force, the MACC and the Election Commission (EC), among others.

Yesterday, she expressed her frustrations that the report has not been made public and the key reforms have not been carried out.

Ambiga, who is former Bar Council chairperson, also said she no longer recognises some of those in Harapan who was so fearless before they became part of the government.

Oh claimed that as part of the IRC, Ambiga was also responsible for the reforms being enacted.

"If the government does not change, Ambiga also must take responsibility, rather than pretending to be a hero," said Oh.
