PKR's Afif upset over show-cause letter alleging him of sabotaging party

Former PKR Youth deputy chief Afif Bahardin admitted he was upset to have received a show-cause letter from the party leadership.

The letter, which he must respond to in 14 days, alleged Afif (photo) of sabotaging the party by creating chaos during the Youth Congress in Melaka last December.

"However, as a member who always defended the party's discipline, I have a responsibility to see the party back on the right track.

"You can judge by yourself. This is the first time I've received such a letter," Afif told reporters today.

"Since the party's congress until now, there has not been any communication about what I allegedly did to sabotage the party," the Penang executive councillor said.

"I attended the congress as a party delegate, and I was there at the youth congress as an observer," stressed the Seberang Jaya assemblyperson.

"I do not know who made the complaint against me and what are their motives, these questions should be addressed to the party leadership," he added.

PKR has been marred by factional fights between supporters of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy Azmin Ali, who is also Minister of Economic Affairs.

The battle is allegedly over the prime minister's post.

Anwar's supporters want Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to step down and hand over the post to the Port Dickson MP.

Mahathir has promised to do so after the Apec 2020 meeting in November.

Afif said based on his findings, there are several other leaders who have also been issued with the show-cause letter.

"I have to discuss with them on how to address this issue, to see what are the accusations against us.

"We are committed to seeing the party managed well as the people are watching PKR and its leadership.

"Everyone including grassroots member is watching how PKR leadership is managing the party today," he said.

Signed today by PKR disciplinary committee chairperson Ahmad Kassim, the letter alleged that Afif participated or collaborated with others to create chaos on Dec 6 during the youth congress to cancel the national congress.

Afif was accused of not complying to the party's constitution and code of ethics.

The party also claimed that he did not obey the directives or decisions of the party.

"(You) should respect other party members regardless of race or religion.

"(You) have carried out activities to sabotage the party and its leadership," the letter read.
