Penang eateries to cater only for takeaways; markets and pharmacies to be open

The restricted movement imposed nationwide will be effective tomorrow until March 31.
At a press conference today, Penang executive councillor Jagdeep Singh said all eateries, including hawker centres, restaurants, and cafes can operate but only for "takeaways".
"No dine-ins are allowed.
"However, all stores that provide daily necessities including supermarkets and public markets must open as usual," Jagdeep said.
These include supermarkets, groceries, public markets (only for essential stuff), 24-hour mini-marts, local council essential services, petrol stations and pharmacies.
Evening markets and farmers markets, which usually involve big crowds, will be closed during the partial lockdown.
"Action will be taken according to local laws against those who do not follow these instructions," Jagdeep warned.
As for meetings, all companies and agencies are told to conduct teleconferencing.
If the meeting is crucial, then the number of participants must be limited to only key personnel, Jagdeep said.
"Practise social distancing of at least one metre from each other," Jagdeep added.
Jagdeep's remarks come after decisions were made at the MBPP (Penang Island City Council) Covid-19 Special Squad which met yesterday in Komtar.
Also present at today's press conference was MBPP mayor Yew Tung Seang.
