All passengers on JB-Kuantan bus with Covid-19 patient traced

CORONAVIRUS | All passengers who were on a Plusliner bus with a Covid-19 patient have been traced.

This is after the Kuantan district health office made a public call for all passengers who boarded the Johor Bahru-Kuantan bus at 7.45pm on Monday to come forward and the message subsequently went viral.

"Thank you all who shared our post this morning. All passengers have contacted the Kuantan district office operations room," it said in a new Facebook post.

The bus departed the Larkin Sentral station before dropping off the passenger at the Kuantan Terminal Sentral.

However, Health Minister Adham Baba this afternoon confirmed there was a passenger who was confirmed with Covid-19 on board.

He said the passenger had failed to comply with instructions to quarantine pending the result of a Covid-19 test.

"For the test, it could take up to 24 hours to get the results... but before the results were known, he had started his travel," he said.

He said in light of the incident, recommendations will be made to the National Security Council for more stringent rules for buses.

"We will advise NSC to (order) social distancing on buses," he said.

The bus had departed hours before Putrajaya announced a travel ban under the movement control order.

According to the federal gazette on the order, unessential travel is barred. Anyone who violates the order can be fined up to RM1,000, jailed to up six months or both.

The Kuantan health office advised netizens to help in the fight to curb the pandemic by abiding with the order by staying home, practice good hygiene by constant hand-washing with water and soap or hand sanitisers, and to practice social distancing of at least one metre from other people.
