CORONAVIRUS | Kelantan mufti Mohamad Shukri Mohamad has been hospitalised after experiencing Covid-19 symptoms.
Shukri experienced a fever and a sore throat after returning from Sarawak last Thursday and was hospitalised at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital yesterday.
A family member of Shukri told Malaysiakini that the mufti experienced pain in his joints after his return from Sarawak and was given medical leave after going for a medical check-up on Sunday.
“But his fever did not subside, and he went to the clinic again before he was asked to go for a preliminary test and was admitted at the hospital at 9am yesterday.
“He is now under observation, especially due to the current Covid-19 situation.
“The hospital told us that there is a bacterial infection, but we still don’t know the details.”
Shukri, however, is currently in a stable condition, said the family member who declined to be named.
“I received many calls and messages are being spread saying he is in a critical condition. This is not true.
“We had a video call this morning, and he said he is fine although he felt a bit nauseous.
Other family members who had been in close contact with Shukri, however, were told to go to a health clinic for preliminary tests.
“We hope the public can pray for him and not spread fake news about him.”
Malaysia has recorded its fourth consecutive day of three-digit increase in Covid-19 cases, bringing the total tally to 790.
The country recorded 117 new cases as of noon yesterday.
