CORONAVIRUS | The Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation have announced donations of medical supplies to Malaysia and three other Asean countries.
In a statement yesterday, Jack Ma Foundation said they will send two million masks, 150,000 test kits, 200,000 protective suits and 20,000 face shields to these countries.

CORONAVIRUS | The Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation have announced donations of medical supplies to Malaysia and three other Asean countries.
In a statement yesterday, Jack Ma Foundation said they will send two million masks, 150,000 test kits, 200,000 protective suits and 20,000 face shields to these countries.
"The foundations have been able to reach out to the governments of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines and proposed the donation of medical supplies.
"The foundations’ goal is to aid the fight against Covid-19 in these nations, with more support for other neighbouring countries to follow.
“We join hands with our Asian neighbours to fight Covid-19,” said the Jack Ma Foundation.
“More help to other Asian nations is on the way! Go Asia," it said.
Malaysia currently has the highest coronavirus infection in Southeast Asia with 900 Covid-19 positive cases and two deaths as of yesterday.
Putrajaya implemented the movement control order to battle the sharp increase in Covid-19 infections this week.
Despite Indonesia having far less coronavirus cases than Malaysia with only 309 Covid-19 positive cases, it has recorded 25 deaths, making it the country with the highest death toll in the region.
This is followed by the Philippines with 202 cases and 17 deaths.
Thailand has recorded 272 cases.
Yesterday, China donated 5,000 face masks and 10,000 medical face shields to Malaysia.
China ambassador to Malaysia Bai Tian (above) said this was the first batch and more supplies will be coming soon.
"A total of 3,500 sets of testing kits are on the way, (we) will deliver them as soon as possible," he said yesterday.
"The China government is making arrangements to get more materials needed by Malaysia, included masks, protective suits and ventilators," he said.
Last month, Malaysia donated a total of 18,000 pairs of gloves to China at the height of the coronavirus crisis there.
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said 100,000 more face masks are expected to arrive in Malaysia this morning.
"God willing, more good news! I was informed by Malaysian ambassador to China Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin that via our solid relationship with China, as well as the efforts of our representatives there, able to secure 100,000 face masks from the president of China-Asia Economic Development Association," he said in social media.
"Also thanks to AirAsia which is voluntarily flying the material to Malaysia for free," he said.
"We hope that these (material) will be able to help us in addressing the Covid (outbreak)," he said.
