Viral photos showing Armed Forces personnel arresting a man in Malacca was not related to the movement control order enforcement, according to the Jasin district police chief.
Mispani Hamdan said the man arrested was a suspect wanted in several thievery cases at several mosques and temples in the state.
He also denied that the soldiers and police personnel involved had used unnecessary force in detaining the suspect.
"The incident happened at about 1.45pm when a team from the district Criminal Investigation Division was following the suspect to make an arrest, when they arrived at a roadblock that was set up as part of the MCO enforcement.
"Upon seeing the roadblock, the suspect tried to flee by leaving his motorcycle and running on foot. This prompted the team to give chase.
"With the assistance of several soldiers who were part of the MCO roadblock, they managed to arrest the suspect after a brief scuffle," he said.
Mispani said among the cases which the suspect had allegedly been involved in was a theft of a mosque's donation box in Kesang Tua and at a temple in Selandar, Jasin, both in this month.
