CORONAVIRUS | As Malaysia enters its ninth day of the movement control order to combat Covid-19, contributions from the private sectors in Penang have started rolling in.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (above) said the state has received many offers from the private sector.
"In just a day, the private sector especially in Penang has pledged almost RM2 million to fight this disease with us," Chow said in his live Facebook press conference today.
"The Penang government has made a decision to set up a fund, the Covid-19 Penang Fund at the Maybank account number 557054620930 to receive the money," he added.
Chow said this money will be channelled to sectors in need of aid during these trying times.
He added, details of the fund can be found at www.penanglawancovid19.com.
"We hope all sectors will join the Penang government to fight Covid-19."
When asked to reveal the list of private donors who have contributed to the fund, Chow said that will be done when the companies agree to do so.
Yesterday, Chow announced a RM75 million relief package targetting 15 groups and 400,000 direct recipients, including families, workers and religious institutions.
Penang's 40 assemblypersons including its three opposition members, will be provided RM30,000 in special allocation to deal with the pandemic.
As of today, Malaysia has recorded 1,796 cases of Covid-19 infections.
