Chinese experts arriving tomorrow to share experience in managing Covid-19

CORONAVIRUS | A team of eight medical professionals from China will arrive in Malaysia tomorrow to share their experience in fighting Covid-19 with their local counterparts.

The Chinese embassy in Malaysia posted on its Facebook page today the list of Guangdong-based medical experts that will be arriving.

They include Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine vice-president Dr Li Jun, Guangdong Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention chief physician Dr Liu Tao and Guangdong Provincial Institute of Public Health General Study Office deputy director Dr Sun Jiufeng.

Other team members are senior medical experts from different units in Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, including the hospital's ICU associate chief physician Dr Wen Miaoyun, Nosocomial Infection Control Department director Dr Zhang Youping, Respiratory and Critical Medicine chief physician Dr Yang Shifang, Infection Department chief physician Dr Luo Xiaodan and psychologist Dr Liu Xiangxin.

The embassy, however, did not divulge additional details.

Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong revealed in his Facebook last night that the medical experts will arrive on April 18 to share their experience in managing the pandemic.

Wee posted this after meeting with China's ambassador to Malaysia, Bai Tian at his office yesterday.

Previously, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Chinese medical professionals would also look at the performance of Malaysia's hospitals in handling the outbreak.

“They will share their experience because they’ve been through the process of handling Covid-19, ” Noor Hisham was reported to have said at a press conference on April 10.

Malaysia has recorded 5,182 Covid-19 cases and 84 deaths as of noon yesterday.
