Muhyiddin explained that for the present, he had specified that only two people address the public and they were Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob on government initiatives and health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on health updates.
"This is so there are not too many spokespersons [..]. but this doesn't mean the ministers are not working.
"They don't issue many statements so people say 'the ministers are not working' but they are and they're doing it without pay for two months," he said in an interview with RTM and Astro Awani tonight.
The cabinet had announced in late March that its members would give up two month's salary to help bolster the government's Covid-19 fund.
Muhyiddin also said that ministers and senior government officers are working to ensure that when the MCO ends, they are not swamped with a mountain of a backlog.
Meanwhile, the prime minister said the government was trying to speed up the digitisation of its administration.
“I’m told that the current e-government system is probably at 30-40 percent. So, I have directed that we speed up and accelerate it so that in any societal situation, if the government is ahead, then the people will adjust.
“The process of digitalisation in government administration, in business matters, in our daily lives, will be the trend in our future and I think the impact will be huge," he said.
