CORONAVIRUS | Defence Minister Ismail Sabri confirmed that the area around Jalan Pudu in Kuala Lumpur was not under an enhanced movement control order (MCO) but was being more tightly monitored.
"It is not true about an enhanced MCO in Pudu," said Ismail at the daily press conference on why the area was cordoned off with concertina barbed wire last night.
"We are not implementing a total lockdown, people are still allowed to go on with their business, we are (only) doing screening for Covid-19.
"This is different from the enhanced MCO which is a total lockdown with the government going in for food distribution.
"Here we carry out screenings, and if they are positive, we isolate and send them directly to the hospital."
Yesterday, it was reported that 18 of the 40 new cases were part of a Pudu cluster.
Meanwhile, Ismail, who is also senior minister (security cluster), told the press that across the country there had been 44 people arrested yesterday for violating the MCO.
He said that the police also conducted 144 interstate roadblocks nationwide and 67,617 checks nationwide to ensure compliance with the conditional MCO. A total of 4,466 retail outlets, 4,519 restaurants, 1,129 factories and 4,655 banks were checked.
Ismail Sabri said that checks were also done on 1,170 land transport terminals, 199 water transport terminals and 85 air transport terminals.
He said the police had checked 28,349 private vehicles, 2,320 public transport vehicles as well as 2,404 markets, 3,563 places of worship, 1,622 recreational areas and 289 construction sites.
Ismail Sabri also announced that the enhanced MCO at Selayang Baru in Gombak, Selangor would end today as the Health Ministry had completed its Covid-19 screening of all those there.
He said this encompassed Zone C which covers Jalan Besar Selayang Baru, Jalan 1, Jalan Indah 21 in Selayang Baru, Gombak; Zone D which covers Jalan 3, Jalan 5, Jalan 7 and Jalan 9 in Selayang Baru; Zone E which covers Jalan 2, Jalan 4, Jalan 6 and Jalan 8 in Selayang Baru and Zone F which covers Block A, Block B and Block C of Selayang Makmur.
