Mukhriz announces resignation as Kedah MB
Mukhriz Mahathir today has formally announced his resignation as Kedah menteri besar effective immediately after losing majority support in the Kedah legislative assembly.
The Bersatu deputy president said he has informed Kedah ruler Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah of the matter.

The Bersatu deputy president said he has informed Kedah ruler Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah of the matter.
“I have informed the sultan on the reasons I lost majority (support) and with this, I resign from the post of menteri besar, effective immediately” he said at a press conference in Wisma Darul Aman today.
He will be replaced by PAS' Jeneri assemblyperson Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who is the current Kedah opposition leader.
Sanusi is slated to be sworn in at 2pm today.
This is the second time Mukhriz (above, second right), who is the son of Bersatu chairperson and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has had to step down from the menteri besar post.
He previously had to relinquish the role in 2016 during BN's rule after he was sacked by former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak for questioning the latter's alleged involvement in the 1MDB financial scandal.
In a statement, Kedah state secretary Ammar Shaikh Mahmood Naim confirmed that Sultan Sallehuddin had, following a meeting with all state assemblypersons yesterday, consented to accept Mukhriz's resignation.
On Tuesday, Sanusi announced that 23 out of 36 Kedah assemblypersons have lost confidence in Mukhriz.
This includes two former PKR representatives, 15 from PAS, two from BN and four from Bersatu.
Mukhriz's position as menteri besar became untenable after Bersatu exited Pakatan Harapan, leading to the coalition losing federal power to Perikatan Nasional, with the premiership taken over by Muhyiddin Yassin.
This also led to a split in Bersatu leadership with Mukhriz and Mahathir siding against the departure from the Harapan coalition.
