CORONAVIRUS | Authorities enforcing the conditional movement control order (MCO) forced over 1,200 vehicles attempting to cross state lines to turn back yesterday.
According to Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this was as interstate travel was still restricted during this time.
“[...]Authorities will take action against anyone found not complying with the (standard operating procedures) SOP.
“Yesterday, police arrested 132 individuals for violating the SOP, in which all 132 were remanded.
“[...]Yesterday also, up to 1,248 vehicles trying to cross states on the excuse they (drivers) wished to return to their hometowns were ordered to turn around by the police,” he said in Putrajaya today.
He added these actions followed 147 interstate roadblocks across the country yesterday, on top of inspections upon 28,790 private vehicles, 1,473 public vehicles and 484 vessels, as well as inspections at 2,060 markets, 3,679 places of worships and 446 construction sites.
It was previously stated that those requiring interstate travel for work or other reasons must first obtain police clearance.
This included spouses working in separate states who wish to see their immediate families once a week.

Applications can be made via the Gerak Malaysia app or the at nearest police station.
When questioned on the actions against those who were able to escape the roadblocks when travelling to their home state, the senior minister warned that they may not be allowed to return back to work once more.
"On (calls for) easing (more SOPs), many people actually want us to tighten (the regulations) instead," he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail was also questioned on Malaysians who hold permanent resident status in other countries who wish to return to those countries.
He reiterated the government stand that they are allowed to leave the country.
However, he reminded that these citizens would not be permitted to re-enter Malaysia until the lifting of the MCO.
