Bersatu Youth: PN memorandum is 'general', what of GE15?
Bersatu Youth has questioned if a consensus memorandum formalising the Perikatan Nasional (PN) will see its component parties go into the 15th general election as a coalition.
It said this in reference to the memorandum inked by the leaders of Bersatu, BN, PAS, GPS, PBS and STAR to formalise PN but was silent on election arrangement.

"Bersatu Youth is of the opinion that the items agreed by PN are general and have already championed by all political parties in the country.
"What is the uniqueness of the memorandum that it requires a PN coalition?
"Bersatu Youth wants to know if the PN agreement will see its parties join forces in the 15th general election or is it only a temporary coalition until the next general election?" it said in a statement.
Bersatu Youth is led by Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, who is aligned to party chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mahathir is opposed to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's faction and is seeking to remove him as prime minister.
Mahathir's faction has argued that Bersatu aligning with PN will see the party's demise in the next general election as Umno and PAS won't be willing to share the traditional constituencies that they contest in.
As such, Mahathir's faction has argued that Bersatu would be in a better position aligning with Pakatan Harapan.

Bersatu Youth, in its statement, questioned if constituencies won by MPs who later defected from Umno to Bersatu will still be contested by Bersatu in the next general election.
Likewise, the wing asked if seats won by PKR MPs who later defected to Bersatu will also be contested by Bersatu in the next general election.
"More importantly, will PN operate officially in the Chini by-election or will it be Muafakat Nasional?" it said.
Muafakat Nasional refers to the alliance between Umno and PAS.
"These are the questions that must be explained to the PN grassroots.
"Bersatu Youth will always be at the frontline of safeguarding Bersatu's interest," it said.
Earlier today, PN component parties issued a joint-statement on formalising the coalition.
The memorandum stated that PN would ensure good governance at the federal and state level.
It said PN parties will also enhance the spirit of sharing and togetherness between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia in order to achieve the goal of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The parties also agreed to strengthen PN via consultation and discussion and respect all races, religions and cultures for the sake of the country.
The statement was signed by Prime Minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, GPS chairperson Abang Johari Openg, PBS president Maximus Johnity Ongkili and STAR president Jeffrey Kitingan.
