CORONAVIRUS | Malaysia recorded 11 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours until noon today, according to Health Ministry data.

This brought the cumulative cases to 8,505. No new death was reported today, which kept the death toll at 121 people or 1.42 percent of total cases.

The country also recorded the highest single-day recoveries since the start of the pandemic with 333 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals.

This, for the first time, pushed the recovery rate past 90 percent to 90.9 percent or 7,733 recoveries out of the total cases.

This meant that 651 patients are still under treatment of which four are in the intensive care unit.

The data was shared by Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Twitter.

There is no Health Ministry press conference today as its daily briefing on Covid-19 was scaled back to thrice-weekly - on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Noor Hisham, in a press statement later said the 11 new cases today comprised of one imported infection and 10 local transmissions.

The 10 local transmissions involve four Malaysians and six non-citizens.

For the six non-citizen cases, he said one was discovered as part of a screening process to return to work.

The remaining were all from existing clusters, namely three from the Pedas cluster, one from the cleaning companies cluster, and the last from a construction site in Kuala Lumpur.

As for the local transmissions involving the four Malaysians, three were from Sarawak. They were family members of Patient 8,453.

The fourth case was discovered at Sungai Buloh Hospital as part of a mandatory screening process for anyone about to undergo surgery.

On a separate matter, Noor Hisham said yesterday was the 10th Asean Dengue day and he reminded Malaysians of the need to combat the disease as it was on an uptrend.

In line with the slogan for this year, he urged Malaysians to spend 10 minutes of their time to clear places where Aedes mosquitos can breed.

He reiterated for Malaysians to avoid crowded places, confined spaces, and close conversations which he referred to as the "3Cs", as a precaution against Covid-19.

Noor Hisham also reminded Malaysians to wash their hands with soap, wear a face mask in public, and heed warnings from the Health Ministry, referred to as the "3Ws".
