CORONAVIRUS | The Health Ministry is zooming in on a Covid-19 cluster involving an old folks home in Kuala Selangor.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry's targeted screening of old folks homes had detected two cases at the premises on May 17.

Subsequently, all staff and residents were screened and tested negative. However, a third and new case emerged almost a month later.

He said the latest case, which was among the 41 new cases today, was discovered after the patient was admitted to the Tanjung Karang Hospital on June 13.

A Covid-19 test found him to be positive for the virus.

"This is the second screening of the patient. His first screening was negative.

"Active case detection is ongoing and prevention measures such as disinfecting activities are being undertaken," he told a press conference in Putrajaya.

The Health Ministry had previously categorised old folks homes as among the target groups for targeted testing as the elderly are more vulnerable to Covid-19.
