The government of Myanmar is requesting Putrajaya to repatriate its illegal workers in Malaysia.
This follows reports of eight suicide cases involving undocumented migrants from Myanmar recently, according to a news report by Yangon-based The Irrawaddy.
The article said Myanmar Foreign Affairs Ministry director-general U Aung Myint had met with the Malaysian ambassador to the country to request for Malaysia's cooperation to return the undocumented workers.
"Thousands of unregistered migrants are stranded in Malaysia without work due to Covid-19 and because of crackdowns against undocumented foreigners.
"On Monday, U Aung Myint, director-general of Myanmar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met Zahairi bin Baharim, the Malaysian ambassador, to request Malaysian cooperation to bring home undocumented workers, according to the ministry," The Irrawaddy reported.
The senior officer also reportedly told Zahairi that Yangon would send relief flights to bring their nationals home if Malaysia approves the request.
Another request was also made, which is for Malaysia not to fine the undocumented migrants who are returning to Myanmar.

The Myanmar news report said undocumented migrants from Myanmar have committed suicide between late May and early June this year.
It also listed details of two other cases, which allegedly occurred on June 18 and June 21, respectively. Both cases occurred in Kuala Lumpur.
"Of the more than 550,000 migrants from Myanmar in Malaysia, an estimated 250,000 are undocumented, according to U Aung Zaw Min, a labour attaché at the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.
"He recently said up to 50,000 of the undocumented workers cannot find work," the news report said.
