PM: All members of administration must declare assets within three months of swearing-in

The Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption (JKKMAR) led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has endorsed past decisions made by the committee under the then Pakatan Harapan administration.

Among others, the committee reaffirmed its decision to improve accountability and integrity amongst MPs by declaring their assets and gifts received.

In a statement today, Muhyiddin said the committee has been briefed on the status of asset declarations by MPs and administration members, which is required by their code of ethics.

"Each member of the administration must make an asset declaration within three months of swearing into office," said Muhyiddin.

Muhyiddin, who chaired the meeting today, said the JKKMAR has also agreed to follow other recommendations as agreed in previous meetings.

These include the implementation of the Organisation Anti-Corruption Plan and Corruption Risk Management across the ministries and strengthening the corruption prevention system in the private sector.

The JKKMAR and the national anti-corruption committee are also expected to hold meetings regularly.

Muhyiddin added that the government will continue efforts to improve management and integrity through the National Anti-Corruption Plan 2019-2023.

In March, less than a month after Perikatan Nasional took over from Harapan, Muhyiddin had instructed all ministers and deputy ministers to declare their assets to the MACC within a month.

This was agreed by its coalition party PAS which had then opposed the move to have MPs declare their assets during the Harapan administration.

Under the Harapan government, then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had instructed MPs to declare their assets within three months after they were sworn in.

The then opposition MPs had strongly opposed the need to declare their assets.
