All Pakatan Harapan lawmakers have been given three months to declare their assets to the MACC, according to Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

“This instruction came from the prime minister when he spoke during the opening of a special briefing on governance, integrity and anti-corruption for Harapan MPs (yesterday).

“There is a form for us to fill that would be prepared by the MACC. All the information would then be published on the MACC website for public viewing,” he was quoted as saying in The Star.

The exercise also includes all ministers and deputy ministers.

For ministers, the three-month period begins from the day they were sworn into office. For other MPs, they have three months from July 16 when they are sworn in.

On Monday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that all Harapan MPs must declare their assets and income to the MACC.

However, he later said that the government was considering the extent of the asset declaration exercise, citing privacy concerns.

"This involves a lot of people, including the family members. We are considering how much we can reveal to the public.

"It may affect the privacy of… family members," he had said.

Asset declaration by lawmakers has long been a thorny issue, as chronicled by Malaysiakini here.
