1MDB trial ends early so Najib can help in Chini by-election
Najib Abdul Razak’s RM2.28 billion 1MDB trial ended earlier today to allow the former prime minister to help in the BN campaign for the upcoming Chini by-election which is set for this Saturday.

Najib Abdul Razak’s RM2.28 billion 1MDB trial ended earlier today to allow the former prime minister to help in the BN campaign for the upcoming Chini by-election which was set for this Saturday.
The Pekan MP's trial for tomorrow was also vacated for the same reason.
Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah allowed the application by Najib’s lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah during proceedings today.
Shafee said this was because the Chini state constituency fell within the Pekan federal constituency.
The lawyer explained on behalf of the accused that Najib would have a full schedule for the rest of the week, starting with a campaign programme which will begin around 6pm today until midnight.
Tomorrow, it was said that Najib would travel to Pahang for further campaigning activities. He was scheduled to attend a 9am programme at an Orang Asli village there which will last till midnight.
Shafee (above) said Najib would then stay the night in Pekan and help the election machinery on Saturday.
“I was informed that the Chini by-election is especially important due to the nature of the candidates. The voters might take it easy and not turn up.
“So it is critical for my client to be at the place (Pekan) to whip up support to make them (voters) come out,” Shafee said.
“His (Najib’s presence in the campaign is critical as Chini falls under the Pekan seat, where there are (total) four state seats.
“Also for any election matter in Pahang, he has to turn up by this evening,” Shafee added.
Sequerah then allowed Shafee’s application for proceedings to end earlier, between 1.30pm and 2pm today, in order to allow Najib to fulfil his duties in campaigning for the Chini by-election.
He also allowed tomorrow’s trial to be vacated, and for the 1MDB trial to resume the following week, on July 15.
